Day 1
Checked into the hotel at about 11.00am, then went to arrange a car for our time in LA. Got the car at about 1pm and decided to go to see Santa Monica Pier. We arranged to have a GPS in the car for assistance in navigating the LA freeways. Either the GPS did not work or we could not operate so we were on our own. Seemed to being going in circles initially and the kids had fallen asleep in the back. Found our way back to hotel and sort directions. Set out with verbal directions this time and arrived at Santa Monica Pier about 45 mins later. By this time the kids had already had a sleep and woke up cranky and hungry and needed some persuasion to venture out of the car, food worked like always. Once they had woken up a little, all was well and we walked the pier and had dinner at the renowned restaurant from Forrest Gump called Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. After dinner we headed back to the hotel, trying not too get lost. By this time my navigator(Janelle) was dosing and nothing looked familiar, kids saying Dad do you know the way back. Low and behold, Century Boulevard ahead and this was where our hotel was located. Kieran slept all through from 6.30pm to 8 the next morning, the rest of us woke during the night and watched a movie before we finally went back to sleep at different times.
Day 2
Woke at about 8am and everyone was ravenous, headed out to Hollywood and had breakfast on the way. Checked out the Hollywood sign and parked the car at the boundary of the Walk of Fame and walked to the Chinese Theatre to see the imprints of the celebrities in the concrete. We then headed to Beverley Hills to checkout the notorious Rodeo Drive.
At 3.30 we went to Venice Beach to check out the sites. People everywhere and this is where Janelle and the kids got their Henna Tattoos. Checked out the souvenir shops, stalls and the various types of people that are on the beach walk. Had dinner/ feast, still not use to the portion sizes and headed back to the hotel after a pretty cool sunset on the beach.
After a day and a half manage the driving and freeways quite easily, kids still comment mum shouldn’t you have the wheel and be driving.
