Epcot

9 December
I woke up early this morning to check the shuttle information to find out that there is no set launch date as yet. It looks like we will not be seeing a launch after all. Last night when we caught the ferry to dinner we spoke to a local who said he knew someone who worked at NASA and it looked like the launch could be scrapped and the shuttle moved back into the hanger. Will wait and see if this is right or not.
Not expecting the launch to go ahead we had already planned to go to Epcot for the day and had pre booked a lunch in the German Exhibit in a German beer hall during October Fest.
One of the first rides we went on was Soarin, which took you on a free-flying hang gliding adventure. This ride sat you in a group of seats then suspended you about 50 feet in the air in an IMAX type theatre where you went on a hang gliding ride around the world. Absolutely fantastic ride once I got over the fear of being suspended in the air.
Here at Epcot we had a photo taken with a variety of Disney Characters including Mickey Mouse, which you can see in the photo album. Also went on a tour through an experimental greenhouse where Disney with NASA have been developing fruit and vegetables that produce better crops or grow in different conditions, surprisingly the kids enjoyed this show.
Lunch turned out great and the kids had one of their first chances of eating german food while I had a sample of a german beer.
After lunch we toured the various country exhibits in the World Showcase before heading back for a swim in the resort swimming pool which is shaped like a guitar. I learnt an interesting bit of trivia today when I was talking to some staff interesting bit. I had been curious as to the number of rooms this resort container, found out it housed 1500 rooms. This resort is perhaps one of a hundred or more, so the logistics of organizing this place would be unbelievable. Really you could not say a bad word about it, don’t have to wait longer than 15 mins for a bus, food is always available and staff are courteous and friendly.
Can’t believe we have only 2 days left! The next 2 days the kids are going to pick which parks we return to, so I know we will be going to Blizzard Beach and Magic Kingdom. More tomorrow.
