Kennedy Space Centre is 11/2 hrs drive and we were warned that traffic generally can be bad on launch days, so we woke at 5.30am for an early breakfast and to be picked up to go and get a car. Finally set off in our GMC deluxe vehicle at about 8.45. The upgrade was given free of charge as they said they had a car for 5 and one was not available when we arrived. Were given directions that seemed easy and we only made one error for the forward (there will be more about our return trip later), arrived at Kennedy Space Centre at about 9.30. We were all very excited as people had told us that a shuttle launch is an unbelievable experience. Kennedy Space Centre has tours of the centre, IMAX movies, rides and exhibits, our first stop was a simulated shuttle ride – which was fantastic. It was during this ride that we got told that the launch had been postponed, disappointing, however we stayed for the remainder of the day to enjoy what NASA had to offer. The kids learnt about the Apollo Program which included Armstrong walking on the moon. Incidently this program is starting again after the shuttle program closes down in 2010. So we left Kennedy at about 4pm expecting to return on Friday to see the launch. On the way home we decided to call in at a Walmart and see what they offered. Unbelievable, absolutely huge so we bought a few supplies and headed back to the hotel. We needed to return the car by 8pm if we did not have to return early on Friday morning and we could get a bus to NASA on Friday’s. You would not believe we got seriously lost for about an hour in the dark, where we went from freeway to freeway until we finally arrived at the Car Centre at about 7.55. Grabbed everything to check the car back in and catch the last bus to the resort. Started unpacking and we realized that we did not have our camera, somehow we had left it in the car. Tried ringing the car centre however it was closed for the evening, Janelle was upset as we had 2 days of pictures and it was a great camera – Disastrous end to the day. Set the alarm for 6am to ring the hire company.

Woke at 6am to ring the car centre, luckily they had not detailed the car yet and it was still in the boot. It was returned to the front desk within an hour (how luck was that?) for us to use for our next trip to NASA, hopefully to see the launch. Waiting for the bus at 8.15 and it had not arrived by 8.30, so when front desk rang for us they explained that the launch had been postponed again.
We then decided to head to MGM Studios for the day.
