We decided to have breakfast out this morning before our trek up to the summit of Diamond Head Crater, which overlooks Waikiki. The trek up includes climbing through a tunnel and climbing a total of 271 steps, which includes a steep section of 99 steps. The view is awesome, see the photos. The return trip including the viewing on the top took about an hour and half, well worth it!
Being our last day with the car we explored the remainder of the east coast which included a stop of several hours at Hanauma Bay. The bay being a sheltered bay of torquoise waters set in a volcanic ring with an abundance of fish and coral. You are able to hire goggles and snorkels which we did to see the fish swimming who had no fear of the people nearby. When I visited here 20 years ago you use to feed the fish by hand, this is no longer allowed and all visitors must watch a 15min video on the site and the requirements of entry before entering. We toured the remainder of the east coast before returning the car and having an afternoon swim at Waikiki Beach and returning to our apartment for a dinner cooked at home and an early night in preparation for another day at the beach tomorrow.
