New Years Eve (29th- 31st Dec)
What a difference this New Years Eve was compared to back in Aussie Land. The day started with skiing in the morning then home in the afternoon to prepare for the last evening of 2007. We returned to Sun Peaks around 5.30pm as the kids were participating in a ski glowstick parade down one of the slopes. Check out the photo’s on our blog. We then made our way over to the jumps that had been set up for the coolest locals in and around Heffley Lake and Kamloops. These guys were doing some serious airtime (new lingo I learnt up on the snow fields). Unfortunately the temperature got the better of us (not just the Aussies, the Canadians too) so we headed back to Selena’s house for a party. I was introduced to a new drink here called fireball shooters (reminded me of the smell of petrol), made up of whiskey and cinnamon. I managed to have one but Michael and some others were tempted for more. A late evening was had by all. Up the next day for some quad bike ridding and our first taste of Bear Sausage in the morning for breakfast (just what you need for a hangover – NOT).
We managed over the next couple of days to go skiing and experience some ice fishing. I can’t describe how cold it was this day but I generally find fishing boring – ice fishing takes it to another limitation. It was around about minus8 degrees with a wind chill factor of about 40km hour. It felt like we were in some snow storm dangling a fishing rod (which is only half in size) down a hole in the ice waiting for something to bite on it. Well it took me about 1 hour of endurance before I finally told everyone it was quitting time. How anyone can stand there in a snowstorm, hoping for a bite is mind boggling. The only bite I managed was FROST BITE.
